The country’s 2nd biggest free registration darts tournament (next to the legendary Darterong Pinoy of NDFP) fires off on Saturday, July 12, 2014.  This is the P50K Mayor Jun Binay Cup to be held at the Poblacion Sports Complex along J.P. Rizal St., Makati City.  Please come early at the venue as the organizers are strict in enforcing the closing time of registration.  Doubles event closes at exactly 10:30am while the Singles game closes at 4:30pm.  This 4-years running event is organized by the Makati City Darts Association (MCDA) and sanctioned by the National Darts Federation of the Philippines (NDFP).

Featured Darter: Marvin Ramos
He arrived in the country during the last week of June and he immediately showed up at Barries Restobar and played in the open doubles tournament.  Shagging off jet lag, this 10th ranked Norwegian darters partnered with Chabeng Vilda and won 4th place.  His next appearance – July 8 MIMO at Route Km 21 Fairview and with partner Edwin Dalusong, they were champions.  The guy is sizzling hot just like his favorite pulutan sizzling sisig.  Whew! And what’s amazing – Marvelous Marvin is just starting to warm up. Watch out everyone.

Word travels fast here in our land. Acts of Marvin’s generosity and kindness are circulating and spreading around.  Last year, binigyan niya ng thermal coat si Edward Santos para gamitin sana sa England.  At Barries Tournament last week, he donated his winnings to his partner – the most talkative darter in the land, Chabeng Vilda.  Nag-partner kami sa fixed doubles last Tuesday at Route Km 21 and he paid for my entry fee.  Nag-champion daw naman kasi siya earlier.  You can’t fault the man if really wants to give and share.  You can’t fault him if he has a soft heart.  No offense meant, but Huwag naman sana magpatuloy ang ganyan. Hehehe.  But I just love the man, and his pusong mamon.

And to help you understand Marvin more, let me tell his life story.  Charang! Eto ang kwento ng buhay niya according to Lola Basyang…

Marvin had humble beginnings and he grew up in Bago Bantay, QC.  Dahil mahirap nga sila, he had to work his way to high school by selling in the streets. Yes folks, he was a takatak boy in his teenage years. He was a college scholar not because of academic excellence kagaya ng hinahangaan nating Kiwi darter, the great valedictorian RB Botor – but it’s because of smarts.  Sumulat siya sa isang charitable organization from the Netherlands which sponsors deserving students from poor families to college, and luckily, natanggap siya.  He finished college and was able to attain his dream to become an Engineer.  He went abroad and worked in Taiwan for almost two years where he perfected his piping skills and expertise.  He applied and got a job in the oil rich country of Norway, as a piping maintenance expert on those offshore oil rigs, a highly skilled job.  And success followed him in his workplace.  Magiging Norwegian citizen na si Marvin this year together with his family.  Life has since been good and smooth for this former takatak boy.

His darting career is equally exciting.  He was a member of the varsity darts team in TUP.  Kasama niya doon ang 2014 Dubai Open Champion, Gerry Flores.  In Stavanger, Norway he together with another Pinoy darter Bong Callueng are lording it over the Nordic darters.  Sisikapin nila next year na pumasok at magrepresent ng basing Norway sa PCD World Cup of Darts. His eldest daughter is the top lady darter in Rogaland and she always beats her dad every day.

Mahaba na pala ito. Di ko namalayan.  Masyadong na-carried away ako. Sensya na guys.

See you on the boards.
