 Cream of the Crop, The best of the best. This is how the Titan Ian Perez described the group of darters that participated in the Singles event in the just concluded Magayon Festival - Bicol Dart Challenge VIII in Legaspi City, Albay. All the top 8 darters as listed in the NDF roster were there and the atmosphere was electric and filled with much anticipation...........
During the 1st day when the Bicol darters saw The Gunner Lou Ilagan and Ian Perez appear in the provincial capitol playing in the boards, word was abuzz if they will witness the seldom seen showdown between the country’s top two darters in local tournaments. The excitement carried on in the next 2 days and each event that the 2 darters played were greatly watched and discussed. But it was not meant to be. The Superman, Andy Villamor reigned supreme and mercilessly beat Ian Perez in the finals. The Lantapan, Bukidnon boy threw superb darts and most importantly, sent a message that he will be a force to reckon with in Phil darts from now on. Will Andy finally break the stranglehold of Ian and Lou as the top darter in the country today? Abangan...........

Tidbits: The 2014 Magayon Festival is the 8th time, Darterong Albayano organized the big event. As always, it was smoothly run without any hassle. Much more, no controversies. All events were played on time. A big hand to the handsome and generous Pres. Darius Arana who let me beat him in the Seniors event, the energetic and deadly Kap Glenn Casulla, photographer par excellence Allan Imperial and the rest of the Darterong Albayano group...........
The Gentle Giant Bhoy Ulang watched closely Andy Villamor’s throws in the finals. Maya maya, nakita ko nandoon na siya sa tabi at pina practice gayahin ang ala Superman na porma ni Andy. Ginaya ko rin at baka ito na ang magpa angat ng pukol ko. Pero mahirap magaya at medyo abnormal ang positioning ng kamay at balikat. Pagkahagis ko ng ilang bato, sumakit ang forearm at nangawit ako. Di ko na kinopya at balik na ulit ako sa dating porma. Bahala na lang si Batman...........
After the singles finals, i was a bit puzzled when the humbled Ian Perez commented - maski natalo ako, panalo pa rin. And he explained that lahat ng laro niya ay binabalikan niya at pinag-aralan. And he reviews them seriously and looks for mistakes, flaws and bad decisions made. In the televised matches abroad, pinagtiyagaan niya ma download ang videos, ang kanya at ng mga kalaban inorder to study and make improvements. So even in defeat, he still gets some lessons learned and has something positive in it. Moral lesson - Don’t be frustrated by your defeats. Learn something from it...........

Isa ring darter na hinahangaan ko sa pagka strategist ay si The Blackhawk, Cris Salinas. Sa katunayan, ang flights na ginagamit ko ngayon ay ang Robson blackhawk flights in his honor. Si Cris kasi, if you watch him closely ay laging nagmamasid at naghahanap ng weakness ng kalaban at gamitin para makalamang. Sa darts, once you get the upperhand, maski anong liit yan ay malaking bagay na rin. Nakakapanalo na ng game yan. After the 4-man victory ng Dominics at nagka break ng laro, siyempre pagod na siya at natulog sa mesa sa venue. Mabilis makatulog yan. Pag gising niya, nakita niya natutulog ng mahimbing rin si Javar at Toto sa kabilang mesa. Sumigaw siya na Hoy, bawal matulog sa mesa, sabay labas agad at pumasyal sa exhibits. Di na nakatulog ulit si Toto at nasira ang pukol. Nalamangan na naman ni Blackhawk...........
