Darts is exploding nowadays.  Please read The President’s Corner of Tito Soncuya in the NDFP website, if you haven’t yet and get a clearer picture of where Philippine darts is heading.  Every week there is a big tournament on schedule. It is now P50K as the minimum prize money for a national tournament to be sanctioned by NDFP.  Ang daming pakulo pa ang naka line-up for 2014.

An election for new directors has been called and it will be held in May.  Of course, the new leadership will have a big effect on the relationship between the 2 main groups - DCP and NDFP. Abangan ang susunod na kabanata..

Featured darter:  Jong Gonzales
Jong is the Vice President of NDFP and one of the most supportive lieutenants of Tito Soncuya. He started playing darts in 1994 but limited his playing to local tournaments and in the Koronadal/ Cotabato area only. Due to heavy work schedule, he was inactive in darts for over 10 years.  In 2004, he was encouraged to play again due to high success of his bosom buddies like Tinoy Guerra and others who were winning and lording all over Mindanao tournaments. Jong was intrigued and he was challenged.  He came back with a vengeance and has been a fixture in Philippine darts ever since......

He is a dedicated public servant, working with DOLE and assigned formerly as Regional Director in Caraga region.  He is blessed with bright children, in fact they are dean’s listers and he has a beautiful daughter who competed for Ms. Notre Dame University.  Jong is a good fraternal brother in APO just like the other gwAPOng darters, Tinoy Guerra, Dante Aparri, Jayjay Sinsuat among others. Jong is ranked among the top 50 darters in NDF rankings classification and a member of the feared 4-man Robson team. You don’t see his name often as winners in doubles events. But rated darters are wary of him and extra cautious during singles matches where he is deadly. Palagi nasa money bracket yan either top 16 or Top 8. Di pa lang napanahon dumiretso sa championships.  Maybe he is just waiting for the right time to explode.  And this year may be the time. Just last Saturday, Jong showed flashes of his resurgent strong game.  He won up to the top 4, losing in a decision game to Ricky Mijares.

Do you know:  Jong was the sparring partner of Ian Perez when Ian became the representative to the Ladbrokes England in 2010 and 2012.  Almost every night they met at their assigned dartboard in a Koronadal pub and threw a lot of 15 dart outs. Siyempre, Ian wins most of the games but he was stretched to the limit.

Furthermore do you know that:   Jong’s repertoire in Karaoke sessions are mainly Eagles, Beatles songs and some romantic ballads. His specialty includes Folk songs and soft rock. Jong brings visiting darters to South Cotabato’s famous landmark Lake Seebu and let them enjoy the highest zipline in Southeast Asia. He is very helpful to struggling darters and those who come to him. He spotted Jaypee DeTablan’s flaw in his follow thru and told him so. Jaypee corrected it and always acknowledges Jong’s help in the improvement of his game. Jong’s great strength is diplomacy and he puts it to good use in mending differences between employers and union groups in DOLE, between DCP and NDF peeps, between warring factions of darters. His birthday is on August 4.

Alfonso I Lights with ice tea pala ang laman.

Lastly, i just want to let everyone know na ang pagsusulat ko ay mostly for entertainment purpose. Di ito investigative type of writing.

See you on the boards......
