Rizal “Jojo” S. Barellano of Davao City is the
Champion of the Philippine Qualifier to the World Darts
Championship in England on December 17, 2007.
Barellano beat Orlan Bernardino of Robson-Philippines in
the best of 3 sets best of 7 legs with straight set 2-0
victory. The first set went 4-2, but the second set became
exciting when Bernardino evened the score 3-3 after Barellano
led 3-0. Bernardino threw a winning dart for the set but
missed – with 108 remaining Bernardino hit the triple
20, single 16 but missed the winning double 16. This could
have been reminiscent of last year’s P500,000 National
Darts Classic in Agusan del Norte, where Bernardino came
from behind and beat Barellano in the quarterfinals.
Leading to the step-ladder finals was the encounter of Orlan
Bernardino and Boie Parfan also of Robson-Philippines. The
best of 3 sets best of 5 legs went the distance. In the
first set Bernardino led 2-0 but Parfan won 3 straight legs
and the set. In the 2nd set, Bernardino won the opener with
a 14 darts-out and won the set in straight legs 3-0. For
the deciding leg the 2 clear leg advantage and sudden death
with 3-3 score is applied. Parfan won the first leg, Bernardino
won the second leg and Parfan the third leg. Parfan could
have won the 4th leg and the match but missed the winning
dart and Bernardino won the next 3 legs for the winning
4-2 decision set.
The round robin results of the final 8 qualifiers are as
follows:
